It is not scientific, but there is some insight into potential seeded acreage this spring in Saskatchewan.
Bruce Carriere with Discovery Seed Labs in Saskatoon has provided a thumbnail sketch of what he thinks might happen this spring, based on the number of samples coming in.
He expects a small jump in barley acreage this spring.
He says maltsters are running out of supplies and will be pushing for more malt barley.
Carriere expects canola acreage and chickpeas will be flat this spring.
He says durum will be down in 2017.
He says field peas will rise slightly in seeded acreage.
He adds flax will be up, lentils down, and oats flat.
Wheat will be flat to down while soybeans and fababeans will take a big jump this year.
