Saskatchewan Harvest Near 90 Percent Complete or Above in All Regions

Saskatchewan Agriculture reports this year's harvest is nearing completion with all regions around 90 percent complete or above.Saskatchewan Agriculture released its crop report Thursday for the period from October 6th to 12th.Crops Extension Specialist Davidson Ugheoke says the weather has been good and producers have continued to harvest remaining crops and, while rain and some snow during the weekend slowed things down in some areas, all regions are close to 90 percent complete.

Quote-Davidson Ugheoke-Saskatchewan Agriculture:

Right now, provincially, harvest is at 93 percent complete with the south west and west-central regions most advanced at 98 and 97 percent complete.
This is followed by the east-central and the north-west at 91 percent. The north-east and the south-east regions are at 89 percent complete.

In terms of yield, the current yield remains consistent with what we had previously asked a few weeks ago and with yield remaining at exactly or a little above the provincial averages for most crops. In terms of quality, largely as a result of the excess moisture growers experienced during the harvest season, there were some degrading in some of the crops especially in the cereals and some pulses.

Those degrading are relative to your location in the province. In places where seeding was a little bit delayed those moistures were welcome, as the crops were not fully matured at that time. So, it depends on the seeding dates that determines how much of the degrading the growers experienced.

Ugheoke says it's just a few more acres here and there that people are cleaning up so hopefully the favorable weather will persist over the next week and bring things closer to completion. For more visit Farmscape.Ca.
