Saskatchewan farmers made great strides in seeding this week.
The latest provincial crop report says 81 per-cent of the crop is in the ground, up from 51 per-cent last week.
Many farmers, particularly in the southern grainbelt, have completed seeding and are applying herbicides.
Seeding is most advanced in the southwest at 90 per-cent, followed by 87 per-cent in the southeast, 84 per-cent in the northwest, 75 per-cent in the northeast and 68 per-cent in the east-central region.
Rainfall ranged from a trace to several inches.
Provincial crops analyst Shannon Friesen says the soil moisture is good in the southwest but the southeast may need more rain shortly.
Hopefully, rain this week will help.
Topsoil moisture is rated three per-cent surplus, 83 per-cent adequate, 13 per-cent short and one per-cent very short.
Overall, crops are in good condition, although there has been some damage from flea beetles, cutworms, strong winds, localized flooding and lack of moisture.
