Sharing Credible Information on Food Production Important as Society is Further Removed from Primary Agriculture

The Executive Director of Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan suggests, as consumers become further removed from primary agriculture, the importance of sharing credible information on how farmers provide our food becomes increasingly important. In recognition of her contributions to helping strengthen the public's trust in farming, Mossbank area farmer, agricultural advocate, public speaker and corporate director Cherilyn Jolly-Nagel was named the recipient of the 2026 Farm & Food Care Champion Award.Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan Executive Director Clinton Monchuk says the award is intended to honor those have made significant continuations to agricultural awareness and to inspire others to do likewise.

Quote-Clinton Monchuk-Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan:

When there's individuals that do go above and beyond, it's always great to recognize them.I think that is one of the big reasons why we continue to do this award, that we showcase the individuals that are actually making a measurable difference when it comes to agriculture. As we continue through growth of our society and just in general, there's more and more consumers who are removed from primary agriculture.

So, when you have individuals that are making an effort to go out and talk to the public about what it is that goes into producing food on farms in Saskatchewan, it helps the entire industry because when you have a more knowledgeable consuming public, then you do end up getting a better understanding, more education, more background in terms of what we do.

So, when questions arise, whether it's on social media or from neighbors, they feel more confident in answering those questions or at least finding the answers to the questions that they might not know from reliable sources. And that is why we need to celebrate those that are getting out in front of this and trying to make a difference with our industry. So, it's just great to celebrate Sherilyn and all the activities that she has done in the past and will continue to do in the future.

At Ewetopia Farms, we honestly admit that we have a sheep addiction! No sooner do we sell some sheep off, then we add more sheep to the flock. I think a lot of sheep farmers can relate to this! In this episode, we sell sheep to new sheep farmers, trim the wool from some of our ram lambs, and make a special purchase.
