Sugarbeet Production in Strip Tillage Systems Field Day

By David Wishowski

Soil health and precision nutrient placement take center stage this summer at a special on-farm demonstration. Michigan State University Extension, in cooperation with the Michigan Sugar Company and the Nature Conservancy, will host a Strip-Till Field Day on Wednesday, July 22, 2026.

The event kicks off at 9 a.m. at 497 Townline Road, Kawkawlin, MI 48631. Registration is free, and the Nature Conservancy will provide a complimentary lunch for all attendees.

Live equipment demonstrations
Finding the right equipment configuration is critical for a successful transition to conservation tillage. During this field day, growers will have the unique opportunity to see machinery in action and talk directly with equipment experts.

Industry leaders Soil Warrior and Krauss will have equipment on-site for live, in-field demonstrations (with additional manufacturers expected to confirm soon).

Precision fertilizer placement
Beyond traditional tillage options, the demonstrations will focus heavily on sub-surface nutrient delivery. Presenters will showcase equipment capabilities for both dry and liquid fertilizer placement, highlighting how growers can optimize nutrient efficiency, protect water quality and reduce input costs by placing fertilizer directly into the root zone.
