The 2023 Canadian Rural and Remote Housing and Homelessness Symposium to be held virtually this June.

GUELPH, ON, – The Rural Ontario Institute (ROI) and the Rural Development Network (RDN) are co-hosting the third Canadian Rural and Remote Housing and Homelessness (CRRHH) Symposium virtually from June 6th – 8th, 2023. This event brings together experts, advocates, and community members to address one of Canada's most pressing issues. “The CRRHH symposium is the perfect opportunity for anyone passionate about addressing housing and homelessness issues in rural, remote, and Indigenous communities to come together, share ideas, and learn from experts and peers in the field,” says Dee Ann Benard, CEO of the Rural Development Network.

This year the 2023 CRRHH symposium will be held virtually to ensure the event is accessible for all who wish to attend. The jam-packed program includes over 50 presentations and various keynote speakers including Emily Wright and Joe Roberts, The Skidrow CEO. With numerous networking opportunities to help attendees connect, gain insight, and develop strategies for making a positive impact in their communities, this is an opportunity you won’t want to miss. “Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic we have seen a significant increase in rural migration,” says Ellen Sinclair.

“Canadians have started to move further away from their urban centres, choosing to live and find work in rural communities. Now more than ever access to affordable and adequate housing is a concern for rural areas.” “It is crucial that organizations within the private and non-profits sectors remain aware and up to date on new tools and opportunities that we can use to address the unique housing and homelessness challenges our rural communities are facing,” says Kezia Cowtan, Rural Housing Information System Project Manager at ROI.

The CRRHH symposium is designed to give community leaders, policy makers, non-profits, funding agencies, community-based organizations, people with lived experience and many more the opportunity to connect at a national level and share tools, best practices, and insights to better understand and address rural, remote, and Indigenous housing and homelessness in Canada.

During the symposium on June 7th, ROI will showcase the Rural Housing Information System (RHIS), an innovative digital tool designed in collaboration with founder Eastern Ontario Wardens' Caucus (EOWC) to fill the housing information gap. Tickets for the event and the complete program available online at https://www.crrhh.ca/registration. The Rural Ontario Institute is a non-profit organization committed to developing leaders and facilitating collaboration on issues and opportunities facing rural and northern Ontario communities.
