Ontario hog prices continued to retreat during the week ending August 14, while U.S. hog futures moved lower and feed costs strengthened, creating renewed margin pressure for producers.
Ontario Hog Prices Continue Lower
Ontario’s 100% Base Formula Price finished the week at $241.62/ckg, down from $245.62 the previous week and $250.56 two weeks earlier. The current price is also well below the $274.43/ckg reported during the comparable week a year ago.
The calculated value of an Ontario weaned pig declined to C$62.82 per pig, while the feeder pig value slipped to C$99.67 per pig.
Elsewhere in Canada, Quebec’s pool price declined to $219.74/ckg, while the Canadian dollar strengthened to US$0.7207, compared with US$0.7172 a week earlier.
