On Jan. 12, 1939, Governor General John Buchan’s (pictured) throne speech under Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King charted the government’s mandate for the fourth session of Canada’s 18th Parliament.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to continue its efforts under the Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Act to improve farmland conditions across the Prairies.
