Throughout spring and summer of 2015, Minnesota, Arkansas, Iowa, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin were among the states that battled what’s been called the United States’ worst avian flu outbreak. More than 40 million birds were destroyed as a result – 30 million alone in Iowa. The total impact of the avian flu outbreak is estimated at $390 million to the American poultry sector.
