
Canada and the United States are among the 12 countries involved in the Trans Pacific Partnership, a trading block that would account for nearly 40 percent of global economic output. Canadian farmers in supply-managed sectors including dairy were concerned about the market access granted to other countries within the TPP. In 2016, approximately 3.25 percent of dairy products in Canada might not come from Canadian dairy farmers. In October 2015, the Government of Canada outlined new programs for farmers in the supply-management sector.
