10 Weird Studies Involving Agriculture

Using Chickens to Study Dinosaur Movements

Chicken Dinosaur

In 2014, scientists from Chile and the United States used chickens to mimic the movement of dinosaurs.

A weighted stick with a similar shape to a toilet plunger was attached to a chicken’s backside. The extra weight changed the animal’s centre of mass, which scientists used to recreate limb posture and other characteristics of dinosaurs.

“Our results support the hypothesis that gradual changes in the location of the centre of mass resulted in more crouched hindlimb postures and a shift from hip-driven to knee-driven limb movements through theropod (a carnivorous dinosaur with typically two legs) evolution,” the study says.
