ADM invests millions to improve corn handling efficiency for Iowa farmers
ADM, a global company that provides solutions from natural agricultural products, has announced a major investment to upgrade its corn processing facility in Clinton, Iowa. The project focuses on improving how quickly and smoothly corn is received and moved through the site, especially during busy harvest seasons.
As part of the project, ADM will add two new high speed corn receiving pits. Each pit will be able to handle up to 25,000 bushels of corn per hour. This will greatly increase the facility’s capacity to accept corn from farmers. Additional grain storage space will also be added to support the higher volume of deliveries.
"We're investing to position our Clinton, Iowa, corn processing facility for continued success while dramatically improving the experience for our farmer partners," said Tim McHenry, vice president, North America Grain & Feed. "These upgrades will help farmers spend less time waiting and more time in the field and help ADM continue to connect those farmers and their crops to the many markets we serve."
The upgrades are designed to reduce long wait times that farmers often face during peak harvest periods. With faster unloading and better grain flow, farmers will be able to spend less time waiting in lines and more time working in their fields. ADM officials said the goal is to create a simple and efficient experience where trucks can arrive unload quickly and leave without delay.
The project also includes improvements beyond the main processing area. ADM plans to upgrade the inbound scale systems and pave part of the access road leading into the facility. These changes are expected to reduce dust to improve traffic flow and ease truck congestion. The road improvements will also benefit nearby residents by making the area cleaner and safer.
"Farmers want a simple, efficient experience when they arrive -- pull in, unload and get back to the field," said Peter Bortoli, regional operations manager. "This project will allow us to receive corn faster, improve reliability and offer a better experience for our farmers and our community."
Construction and equipment sourcing for the project are expected to rely heavily on contractors and suppliers from Iowa and surrounding regions. This approach will help support local jobs and strengthen the regional economy during the construction period.
The new high-speed receiving pits are scheduled for completion by the end of 2026. Storage-related enhancements are planned to be finished by summer 2027. ADM has stated that these upgrades will help ensure the Clinton facility remains competitive and reliable for years to come.
