Program supports startups creating innovative blueberry-based products
The U.S. Highbush Blueberry Council, in partnership with VentureFuel, has announced the launch of the second annual Blueberry Boost Accelerator. The program is designed to support early-stage companies developing products that use blueberries as a key ingredient.
Applications are now open and will be reviewed on a rolling basis through June 12, 2026. The eight-week hybrid accelerator connects revenue generating startups with leaders from the blueberry food retail and consumer packaged goods industries.
Selected companies will receive expert mentorship, customized business support, and strategic guidance to help speed up growth. Participants will also gain access to professional brand tools such as video advertisements, sales materials, and media exposure. The program offers valuable opportunities to connect with buyers investors and innovation experts.
“USHBC is focused on advancing blueberries toward becoming the world’s favorite fruit by driving demand through innovation, collaborative partnerships, and continued research. Through our accelerator, we’re bringing together forward-thinking startups and industry leadership to identify breakthrough ideas and unlock meaningful growth for the category,” said Kevin Hamilton, Vice President of Global Marketing and Communications, USHBC.
“Blueberries are bursting with opportunity, from health and wellness to snacking, culinary exploration, and functional applications. This program is designed to surface bold, next-generation ideas that expand how and where blueberries show up with real-world applications that will influence future product development and ultimately make blueberries an even more essential part of consumers’ everyday lives,” said Kevin Hamilton.
As part of the program, startups will receive one on one pitching support and showcase their products at The Blueberry Convention scheduled for September 22 to 25 in Monterey, California. The grand prize winner will receive twenty thousand dollars while the runner up will receive ten thousand dollars.
The accelerator is open to consumer-packaged goods startups across many categories including snacks, frozen foods, beverages, confectionery personal care wellness, meals, sauces and pet products.
“We are thrilled to see the Blueberry Boost Accelerator enter year two! Blueberries are a highly versatile, innovation-friendly ingredient that aligns perfectly with today’s demand for foods and products that are good for you without sacrificing great taste,” said Fred Schonenberg, founder and CEO of VentureFuel.
“We’re just beginning to explore what’s possible across new products and applications, building upon the strong foundation of blueberries and the love consumers show for them across occasions and formats,” said Fred Schonenberg.
Interested applicants can also attend a virtual information session on May 14 to learn more about the application process. More details and applications are available through the program website.
