Dan and Chelsea Erlandson, from Outlook, Saskatchewan, were named the province’s Outstanding Young Farmers during Canada’s Farm Progress Show.

The duo are third-generation majority owners of Spring Creek Garden Ltd., where they grow more than 50 kinds of vegetables, attend farmers’ markets in Saskatoon and Regina, and market 150 acres of crops for the wholesale market.

“We grow just about everything,” Dan said, adding the labour is intensive and hires about 29 workers from Mexico.

The main vegetables grown on the 200-acre farm are romaine, celery, broccoli, leaf lettuce, Brussels sprouts and sweet corn.

Dan took over the farm at 16 years old, and married Chelsea in 2010, who became an important member of the operation.

Chelsea currently serves as the secretary-treasurer for the Saskatchewan Vegetable Growers Association.

The Erlandsons will join other regional winners from Manitoba, Alberta & NWT, Ontario, B.C. & Yukon, Atlantic Canada in Niagara Falls from November 29 – December 4, where Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmers will be crowned.
