The prime minister’s office expressed optimism following a Canadian delegation’s trip to China about multiple trade issues including canola.

Sask. Premier Scott Moe led the trip. Kody Blois, the parliamentary secretary to Prime Minister Carney, participated as a federal representative.

“The delegation had constructive discussions to these ends with Chinese officials and key organizations involved in trade between Canada and China,” the prime minister’s office said in a Sept. 12 statement. “The visit paves the way for further constructive engagement with Chinese counterparts to find pragmatic solutions to shared trade concerns.”

Prior to the trip, Premier Moe said a resolution to the trade tensions between China and Canada must come from the very top – Prime Minister Carney and President Xi.
