The discussions were “constructive,” the prime minister’s office says

The prime minister’s office expressed optimism following a Canadian delegation’s trip to China about multiple trade issues including canola.

Sask. Premier Scott Moe led the trip. Kody Blois, the parliamentary secretary to Prime Minister Carney, participated as a federal representative.

“The delegation had constructive discussions to these ends with Chinese officials and key organizations involved in trade between Canada and China,” the prime minister’s office said in a Sept. 12 statement. “The visit paves the way for further constructive engagement with Chinese counterparts to find pragmatic solutions to shared trade concerns.”

Prior to the trip, Premier Moe said a resolution to the trade tensions between China and Canada must come from the very top – Prime Minister Carney and President Xi.

He’s hopeful this recent trip is the beginning of that step.

“Our goal is to open doors for more conversations, including one between the Prime Minister and President, to advance opportunities for Saskatchewan and Canada,” he said on X.
