The Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) highlights the benefits of this proactive step. With rising input costs, unpredictable weather, and fluctuating fuel prices, early tank fills can help farmers save money and avoid supply issues.
Propane plays a big role on American farms. More than 80 percent of grain dryers in the U.S. use propane. It is not only reliable but also cost-effective. Propane is used for drying grain, heating livestock buildings, running irrigation systems, and providing backup power.
Since propane is stored on the farm and does not lose quality over time, it can be filled in advance and used when needed most.
Modern propane-powered grain dryers are up to 50% more energy efficient than older models. They help prevent over-drying and protect grain quality. By investing in newer equipment, farmers can boost efficiency and improve harvest results.
“Planning ahead is one of the most effective tools a farmer can use,” said Mike Newland, director of agriculture business development at PERC. “By filling propane tanks early, producers can take control of energy needs and avoid price hikes and delivery delays that can accompany peak demand.”
