First 14 inductees into the Cdn. Ag Hall of Fame

Thomas B. Macaulay – Quebec

Thomas B. Macaulay – Quebec

Macaulay started in the ag industry later in life than most, he bought his first Holstein cow at age 66. Prior to ag, he worked for the Sun Life insurance company. Once he got into farming, he made great strides in genetic improvements and breeding for both Holsteins and corn.

He developed a much sought-after Holstein line and developed corn hybrids that adapted well to Canada’s shorter season. Macaulay was the first Master Breeder in Quebec, the highest recognition given to a breeder by Holstein Canada. He received honorary degrees from McGill University in Montreal and from Aberdeen and Edinburgh in Scotland.
