New Yuexi facility boosts biosecurity genetics and sustainable swine breeding

Hendrix Genetics in partnership with Huanshan Group has officially opened its Hendrix Huanshan Nucleus Farm in Yuexi Southeast China. This new facility represents an important step toward strengthening China’s swine industry through innovation, high biosecurity standards, and advanced genetic development.

The nucleus farm has been designed to support long-term breeding progress while meeting the specific needs of Chinese pork producers. It is equipped with modern technologies focused on biosecurity, environmental control, and animal welfare. Key features include positive pressure air-filtration, advanced ventilation systems, precision farm management, and integrated data systems that support full traceability and consistent production standards.

During the inauguration event industry stakeholders were given the opportunity to tour the facility and observe how modern breeding technologies are applied in daily operations. This hands-on experience helped demonstrate how science-based practices can be effectively used to improve herd health productivity and sustainability.

The farm has already received its first group of 1,000 high health sows which will form the foundation for future genetic improvement. By combining global genetic expertise with a locally adapted operational model the partnership aims to create strong value for Chinese producers and support stable pork supply.

“The establishment of the Hendrix Huanshan Nucleus Farm is the result of determined collaboration with Huanshan group. Together, we are creating local value for Chinese producers by uniting global genetic expertise with an operational model designed for China’s realities.” said Chen Ji, Managing Director Hendrix Genetics China. “The farm has already received its first shipment of 1,000 high-health sows, laying the foundation for robust local production and genetic progress.”

The launch of the Hendrix Huanshan Nucleus Farm also reflects a broader commitment to sustainability. The facility focuses on efficient resource use improved animal health and environmentally responsible production practices. These efforts support the goal of building a healthier and more resilient swine industry in China.

This project is one of several key achievements following the merger of Hendrix Genetics and Danish Genetics to form Hendrix Genetics Swine. The introduction of new unified breeding solutions further highlights the strong technical integration and shared breeding philosophy driving the organization forward.

Overall, the new nucleus farm marks a major milestone in advancing genetic excellence innovation and long-term collaboration within China’s swine sector.

Video: Season 7, Episode 1: Managing Risk and Seeing Opportunities in U.S. Pork Production

Today’s episode features three guests discussing the similarities and differences between pork production in the United States and Brazil, along with strategies for managing risk in today’s industry while recognizing and acting on opportunities. First, Dr. Anne Caroline de Lara, executive manager of live pig production at Seara Alimentos, a JBS company in Brazil, is joined by Dr. Matthew Turner, head of operations for JBS Live Pork. Together, they discuss how labor, climate and ventilation challenges vary between Brazil and the United States, while underscoring their shared commitment to raising healthy pigs. They also point to lessons producers in both countries can take from one another’s systems and on-farm experiences. Then, Brady Reicks, risk manager at Reicks View Farms, shares his perspective on risk management, drawing from his background in markets and his transition into farming. He discusses how protecting margins varies by operation and offers practical approaches producers can use to make marketing and business decisions with greater confidence rather than hesitation.

Both conversations were recorded at recent industry events focused on swine livability, including the International Conference on Pig Livability and Iowa Swine Day.
