A second MP who works closely on agriculture files on Parliament Hill has his sights on the next federal election.

“Mr. (John) Barlow does plan on running again in the next federal election in the riding of Foothills,” his office told Farms.com in an email.

Barlow, who serves as the Conservative ag critic and is the deputy chair of the House of Commons’ ag committee, has represented his constituents since 2015.

He won that year’s election with almost 76 per cent of voter support.

Foothills residents re-elected him in 2019 and 2021 with 82 and 69 per cent support, respectively.

Barlow is the second MP with close ties to ag on the Hill to clarify their upcoming election campaign status to Farms.com

Lawrence MacAulay, the federal ag minister, is the other.

His office told Farms.com that after being elected “by the people of Cardigan (P.E.I.) for eleven straight elections, Minister MacAulay is always preparing for the next campaign.”

MacAulay has held that riding since 1988 when 51 per cent of voters in the riding elected him.

Every election since then, MacAulay has earned between 45 and 61 per cent of the riding’s support.

Farms.com is still waiting to hear back from two other MPs.

One is Alistair MacGregor, the NDP’s ag critic and B.C. MP for Cowichan-Malahat-Langford.

He won the riding with 36 per cent support in 2015 and 2019, and 42 per cent of voters chose him in 2021.

The other is Yves Perron, the Bloc’s ag critic and MP representing the Quebec riding of Berthier—Maskinongé.

Perron won the riding in 2019 with 37 per cent of the vote and held it in 2021 with 35 per cent of voter support.

Farms.com will update readers if Perron and MacGregor’s offices provide responses.

Lyrics:

My days begin with workin’, Alarm’s at 5 o’clock,
I Fill 5 gallon buckets, The feeders and the troughs,
This five to nine ain’t workin’, why the heck do I work so hard?,
I can’t worry ‘bout health problems, I can sleep in when I’m gone,

One, here comes the two to the three to the four,
Tell em’ ‘buy another cow, we need plenty more’,
Blue jeans are gettin’ dirty, what else could I ask for,
Oh my, more chores

Someone pour me up another shot of sweet tea,
They know me and working hard’s got a history,
There’s another flock of sheep that still needs feed,
Everybody on the farm gettin’ busy,

Everybody on the farm gettin’ busy,
Everybody on the farm gettin’ busy,

I’ve been working pretty stressed but,
I ain’t changing for some cash,
Lord knows that I’m very blessed (More chores),
But I gotta say it’s hard,
Workin’ outside gettin’ charred,
Living out here on the farm, (more chores)

One, here comes the two to the three to the four,
Tell em’ ‘buy another cow, we need plenty more’,
Blue jeans are gettin’ dirty, what else could I ask for,
Oh my, more chores

Someone pour me up another shot of sweet tea,
They know me and working hard’s got a history
There’s another 20 chickens that still need feed,
Everybody on the farm gettin’ busy,

Everybody on the farm getting’ busy,
Everybody on the farm gettin’ busy,

Fun, here on ranch that’s what you can’t ignore,
Might be pretty hard but I love it to its core,
Flannel’s gettin’ dirty, what else could I ask for,
Oh my, more chores (Tell ‘em sing with me)

Someone pour me up another shot of sweet tea,
They know me and working hard’s got a history,
There’s another flock of sheep that still needs feed,
Everybody on the farm gettin’ busy,
Someone pour me up another shot of sweet tea,
They know me and working hard’s got a history,
Watching cattle in the dark, don’t miss me,
Everybody on the farm gettin’ busy,
(Yeeeeeehaw)
Everybody on the farm gettin’ busy,
Everybody on the farm gettin’ busy,
It’s the best bro, go get yourself a farm
