Partnership Supports Farmers and Boosts Sustainable Canola Farming in Canada
Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) has partnered with PepsiCo to expand a regenerative agriculture program in Saskatchewan, it was chosen because of its dominance in canola.
The program focuses on helping farmers adopt regenerative and restorative farming practices. These practices are designed to improve soil health, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and protect local ecosystems.
Farmers participating in the program receive training through the Canadian Prairies Trusted Advisor Partnership (TAP), which provides practical and science-based guidance.
In 2025, the program supported 16 farmers working across 25,000 acres. These farms produced around 26,000 tons of canola grown under regenerative practices. The program aims to expand in 2026, targeting 45,000 acres of farmland.
To measure progress, the program uses the Cool Farm Tool. This tool helps track important indicators such as emissions, biodiversity, and overall farm impact. By using data, farmers can monitor their performance and make improvements over time.
"With climate challenges affecting crops and farmer livelihoods, the long-term resilience of food and agricultural supply chains requires a transition to more sustainable practices at farm level. Our program with PepsiCo reflects our shared focus on supporting regenerative agriculture practices through this collaboration, and our belief that joint investment and actions are essential to scale and accelerate the adoption of regenerative agriculture practices," said Paul Hrycyk, Regenerative Agriculture Project Manager at LDC.
"Together, we aim to contribute to more resilient farming systems that help to conserve ecosystems and natural resources, while fostering climate resilience and prosperity for farming communities," said Hrycyk.
"PepsiCo is rooted in agriculture, and farmers are central to the food systems we depend on. By working closely with farmers to understand what works best for their operations, we can help promote the adoption of regenerative agriculture practices that can support soil health and strengthen resilience on the farm," said Margaret Henry, VP, Sustainable and Regenerative Agriculture at PepsiCo.
“This approach is intended to support productivity and stability for growers while helping sustain the natural resources the industry relies on. When farmers thrive, we all thrive," said Henry.
