With the cultivator’s quick-change system, farmers can customize the Karat to meet their needs

Farmers can use LEMKEN’s new cultivator to prepare a seed-ready field in one pass, regardless if they’re performing deep or shallow tillage.

The Karat incorporates three different tools to ensure producers leave their fields in the best possible condition.

“It’s a three-step process with the shanks, leveling discs and roller,” Shawn Robinson, area sales manager with LEMKEN, told Farms.com. “The shanks lift and mix (the soil), the leveling discs level out any hills and valleys the shanks create, and the roller reconsolidates to help keep (soil) moisture and to break down any lumps that might be left over.”

The Karat can perform tillage between three and 13 inches deep. And its ContourTrack technology allows farmers to perform even tillage passes, no matter the terrain.

“When the machine senses any change in the contour of the ground, it automatically adjusts the rear roller to keep (the Karat) at a constant working depth,” Robinson said.

The Karat is also equipped with a quick-change system, which allows producers to change their shares easily. And LEMKEN offers nine different shares tailored to the kind of work a farmer is performing.

“If farmers want to go deep and break up (the soil’s) hardpan, they would go with a narrow share,” Robinson said. “If they want to come up and do a three-inch seedbed pass, they would use a wider one with wing shares to do a seedbed that would give them a complete cut of the ground to allow for better seed-to-soil contact.”
