Genesis Fertilizers Partners with thyssenkrupp for Ammonia

Genesis Fertilizers is proud to announce a significant milestone with the signing of a Process Design Package (PDP) and License agreement with thyssenkrupp Uhde, a global leader in ammonia production technology.

This agreement marks a key advancement in Genesis Fertilizers’ plans to build Western Canada’s first low-carbon nitrogen fertilizer plant, focusing on sustainability, innovation, and providing solutions that directly support farmers.

Ammonia, a vital component in nitrogen fertilizer, plays a central role in modern, sustainable farming practices. thyssenkrupp Uhde’s cutting-edge uhde ammonia technology offers industry-leading innovations designed to boost energy efficiency, lower emissions, and deliver dependable nitrogen output — all built on a foundation of proven, reliable engineering.

This technology will be essential to Genesis Fertilizers' aim to secure a steady and local fertilizer supply for Western Canadian growers.

"Our collaboration with thyssenkrupp Uhde exemplifies the caliber of innovation and expertise that Genesis Fertilizers is bringing to this transformative project," said Jason Mann, CEO of Genesis Fertilizers. "Their advanced uhde ammonia technology not only enhances operational efficiency but also supports our commitment to sustainability, ensuring Canadian farmers have reliable access to high-quality fertilizer."

thyssenkrupp Uhde’s proprietary ammonia process merges nitrogen extracted from the air with hydrogen sourced from natural gas.

The system is purpose-built to reduce energy usage, manage production costs more effectively, and cut emissions-delivering essential advantages to Canada’s agriculture sector.

For farmers across Western Canada, the partnership promises major benefits:

  • The proposed facility will reduce dependence on unpredictable global supply chains by providing a steady, local source of nitrogen fertilizer.
  • Improved production efficiency will help ensure price stability, aiding farmers in long-term planning.
  • Lower emissions will align with the sustainability goals of the agriculture industry.

By adopting thyssenkrupp Uhde’s technology, Genesis Fertilizers is advancing its mission to create a more resilient and environmentally responsible fertilizer supply chain.

The project remains on schedule, with commercial operations planned for 2029, and the company will continue to update farmers as progress unfolds.
