The Ontario government has opened nominations for the 2026 Excellence in Agriculture Awards, an annual program that recognizes individuals, families, businesses and organizations making important contributions to the province’s agri-food sector.

The awards celebrate the achievements of farmers, food processors, industry organizations and agribusinesses that help strengthen Ontario’s food production system and support economic growth. The program also highlights leadership, innovation, and community involvement across the sector.

According to Ontario officials, the awards support the province’s efforts to promote local food production and recognize those who help maintain a strong and competitive agriculture industry.

“The success of Ontario’s agri-food sector is driven by the passion, innovation and hard work of farmers, processors, organizations and businesses across the province,” said Trevor Jones, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness. “Their leadership helps keep our province competitive, drive economic growth and reinforce Ontario’s position as a global leader in agriculture. We look forward to celebrating this year’s outstanding recipients.”

For 2026, awards will be presented in 10 categories. These include Research and Innovation Excellence, Agribusiness Excellence, Education Excellence, Promotional Excellence, Urban Agriculture Excellence, Northern Business Excellence, Indigenous, Métis or Inuit-Owned Business or Indigenous, Métis or Inuit Community Group Excellence, Women’s Farming Excellence, Youth Excellence and Farm Family Excellence.

The awards are designed to showcase the diverse talents and accomplishments found throughout Ontario’s agriculture and food industries. From farm families and young leaders to researchers and businesses, the program recognizes a wide range of contributions that help move the sector forward.

Nominations are open until September 4, 2026. Individuals can nominate themselves or submit nominations for another person, family, organization, or business that has demonstrated excellence in agriculture.

Ontario’s agri-food industry plays a major role in the provincial economy, generating nearly $53 billion in economic activity. Through these awards, the province aims to increase awareness of locally grown and made food while celebrating the people and organizations behind its success.
