Industry Experts Share Solutions to Boost Sow Performance

SowBridge (Iowa State) is hosting a new educational webinar focused on managing large pig litters and strengthening sow productivity. The session is part of an ongoing monthly SowBridge webinar series designed to deliver timely and practical information to pig producers across the country.

The webinar features experienced swine industry professionals who share real-world strategies for handling the challenges that come with larger litter sizes. As modern pig production continues to increase litter numbers, producers face added pressure related to sow nutrition, piglet survival, and animal care. The session explains simple approaches that producers can apply directly to their operations.

The program will take place online using Zoom, allowing farmers to attend from any location. This flexible format supports participation from busy producers who may not be able to travel for in-person meetings. Each webinar session is recorded and made available to registered participants, giving them the option to review the information later.

SowBridge focuses on sow production topics that support long-term farm success. Each month, new speakers and subjects are introduced to address current challenges and emerging practices in pig farming. The series encourages better planning, informed decision-making, and improved animal welfare.

Producers can register for the full SowBridge webinar series through the organization’s website. A single registration fee provides access to all live sessions and recorded content throughout the year. This approach allows producers to continue learning while managing daily farm responsibilities.

The webinar series supports producers who want to improve sow comfort, piglet growth, and overall productivity. By offering expert insights, practical guidance, and easy access to education, SowBridge helps farmers strengthen their pig operations and stay informed about best management practices.

Registration for the entire series is $200. To register, click or tap the button below, or visit the SowBridge website. For more information, contact Marta Grant, Communications Specialist - Iowa Pork Industry Center.

Evolution of Beef Cattle Farming

Video: Evolution of Beef Cattle Farming

The Clear Conversations podcast took to the road for a special episode recorded in Nashville during CattleCon, bringing listeners straight into the heart of the cattle industry. Host Tracy Sellers welcomed rancher Steve Wooten of Beatty Canyon Ranch in Colorado for a wide-ranging discussion that blended family history and sustainability, particularly as it relates to the future of beef production.

Sustainability emerged as a central theme of the conversation, a word that Wooten acknowledges can mean very different things depending on who you ask. For him, sustainability starts with the soil. Healthy soil produces healthy grass, which supports efficient cattle capable of producing year after year with minimal external inputs. It’s an approach that equally considers vegetation, animal efficiency, and long-term profitability.

That philosophy aligned naturally with Wooten’s involvement in the U.S. Roundtable for Sustainable Beef, where he served as a representative for the Colorado Cattlemen’s Association. The roundtable brings together the entire beef supply chain—from producers to retailers—along with universities, NGOs, and allied industries. Its goal is not regulation, Wooten emphasized, but collaboration, shared learning, and continuous improvement.
