Rotary Mower Gets Road Ready Upgrades

Schulte Industries has introduced major updates to its FX-1800 rotary cutter, making it more durable and service-friendly.

These upgrades are especially essential for those involved in roadside mowing operations.

Designed to meet the needs of contractors and Department of Transportation (DOT) crews, the FX-1800 now comes in two specialized versions: the D (DOT) and C (contractors).

Farms.com recently met with Luke Andries, territory manager with Schulte, to learn more about these upgrades.

One of the key improvements is the introduction of replaceable side skirts.

These allow users to change only the worn-out parts instead of replacing the entire shield, reducing maintenance costs and increasing convenience.

This change helps extend the cutter's overall life span and simplifies service routines.

A common weak point in many cutters is the turnbuckles.

To solve this, Schulte has replaced them with phasing cylinders on the wings.

This upgrade offers more durability, especially when the equipment encounters unexpected bumps like culverts or ditches.

Overall, these updated components improve reliability and reduce downtime for users.

Another major update is the availability of a 33-inch rear tire option.

This feature was introduced in response to field conditions, particularly in places where uneven terrain and drainage grates can damage smaller tires.

With the larger tires, the FX-1800 can handle such obstacles more efficiently, ensuring smoother operations in challenging environments.

These updates make the FX-1800 a more durable, efficient, and easy-to-maintain piece of equipment, suited for tough roadside mowing jobs.

Whether for agricultural, commercial, or government use, this machine is built to handle rough conditions with ease.

Dicamba Returns for Georgia Farmers: What the New EPA Ruling Means for Cotton Growers

Video: Dicamba Returns for Georgia Farmers: What the New EPA Ruling Means for Cotton Growers

After being unavailable in 2024 due to registration issues, dicamba products are returning for Georgia farmers this growing season — but under strict new conditions.

In this report from Tifton, Extension Weed Specialist Stanley Culpepper explains the updated EPA ruling, including new application limits, mandatory training requirements, and the need for a restricted use pesticide license. Among the key changes: a cap of two ½-pound applications per year and the required use of an approved volatility reduction agent with every application.

For Georgia cotton producers, the ruling is significant. According to Taylor Sills with the Georgia Cotton Commission, the vast majority of cotton planted in the state carries the dicamba-tolerant trait — meaning farmers had been paying for technology they couldn’t use.

While environmental groups have expressed concerns over spray drift, Georgia growers have reduced off-target pesticide movement by more than 91% over the past decade. Still, this two-year registration period will come with increased scrutiny, making stewardship and compliance more important than ever.
