Aly Young recorded the video from his tractor
It’s World Cup time and around world members of the ag community are doing their part to celebrate the tournament and their native lands.
One farmer in Scotland is receiving attention for his online video.
Aly Young, a farmer in Renfrewshire, about 90 minutes outside of Edinburgh, recorded a version of Miley Cyrus’s Party in the USA to support The Tartan Army and the tournament overall.
“Spending long hours in the tractor cab – cabin fever is a real thing – I did a bit of tractor karaoke and posted it on my Facebook,” Young told The Scottish Sun.
Wearing a red Scottish national team jersey, a kilt, and a Scotland flag on each wrist, Young sings from the cab of his Massey Ferguson 5711 tractor as livestock graze in the background.
His music video is 3:24, two seconds longer than Cyrus’s hit.
“Like who are these guys with flags and kilts? They must be from out of town,” he sings in one verse.
As of June 11, the video on his TikTok account has more than 62,000 views and more than 800 comments.
This isn’t Young’s first go round with a song for the Scottish national soccer team.
For the 2024 Euro Cup he used Franz Ferdinand’s Take Me Out as inspiration and came up with We’re Not Going Out to support the players.
If nothing else, Young hopes his video will help put a face to the food people eat.
“I’m passionate about farming and if I can do just a small bit to promote our industry in a positive light and bridge the gap to a largely disconnected public then I’m happy,” he told The Scottish Sun.
The ag community is supporting the tournament in other ways too.
For example, Farms.com spoke with Bert Bos of Bos Sod Farms in B.C.
This farm is providing the pitch for the games at BC Place.
And multiple farmers’ markets are hosting watch parties.
In addition, multiple U.S. farms grew the grass needed for games in that country.
And for more World Cup fun, Farms.com created a hypothetical bracket using agriculture.
In this tournament, countries with larger shares of agriculture as part of the national GDP are considered winners.
