You may want to consider a career in beekeeping, as the most recent agricultural census “estimated a need for an additional 3,619 commercial beekeepers across Canada to meet demand by the year 2023,” according to Niagara College’s website.
This graduate certificate is three semesters in length, which coincides with the “annual lifecycle of the honey bee, from winter slumber to honey extraction to putting the honey bees back in their hives for overwintering,” according to the website.
Students will take courses in honey bee health, commercial beekeeping regulations, the entomology of bees, integrated pest management, queen rearing and apiary management.
The program also includes a commercial beekeeping project where students work with industry partners for a hands-on experience.
Graduates may pursue career paths such as: an apiary manager or technician, a honey production supervisor, or a seasonal beekeeper.
The college is accepting applications for the Jan. 2018 and Jan. 2019 terms.
