OVC Ranks Fourth Worldwide and First in Canada

The University of Guelph has achieved global recognition after its Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) ranked fourth worldwide in the latest rankings by Quacquarelli Symonds,  making  OVC the top veterinary college in Canada.

The QS rankings evaluated nearly 900 universities across different subjects. Veterinary science was included for the first time, making this achievement even more significant. OVC’s fourth-place ranking is the highest achieved by any Canadian institution across all categories this year.

The rankings are based on key factors such as academic reputation, employer reputation, and research impact. These indicators help students choose leading institutions for higher education.

OVC dean Elizabeth Stone said the recognition reflects the institution’s strong academic and research foundation. “We are pleased that OVC is being recognized for our world-class research, learning innovations and strategic direction,” she said.

She further added that “The ranking pays tribute to the high quality of our faculty, staff and students, and the relevance of the work they do to improve the health of animals, people and the environment. In addition, this recognition by employers of our graduates confirms the value of our University’s learner-centred approach.”

The University of Guelph also performed strongly in agriculture and related fields. Its Ontario Agricultural College ranked 23rd globally, higher than last year’s ranking Agriculture and forestry programs reached 14th place globally, ranking first in Canada.

University president Rene Van Acker said, “ These results matter because of what they mean for our students and for the communities we serve,” And he also added that “Students are learning in programs recognized globally and leaving with the ability to contribute in meaningful ways. That carries through to our work with government and across industries, where our graduates and expertise are helping address complex challenges.”
