U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke L. Rollins recently congratulated Tyler Clarkson on his confirmation as General Counsel at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Clarkson’s appointment reflects his extensive legal background and his commitment to agricultural policy.

Clarkson worked as the Vice President and Deputy General Counsel at Ginkgo Bioworks, a company specializing in genetic engineering and applications across industries, including agriculture. His experience in genetic engineering aligns with USDA’s efforts to promote innovation in agriculture while ensuring regulatory compliance.

Clarkson has a long history with the USDA. He previously served in multiple roles, including Deputy General Counsel, Principal Deputy General Counsel, and Acting General Counsel at USDA. His leadership in these positions gave him valuable experience in the department’s legal and regulatory functions. Clarkson also worked as a Counselor to the Administrator at the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA), where he focused on regulatory enforcement reform.

Clarkson’s legal expertise extends beyond government work. He also served as an associate at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, where he specialized in cross-border legal matters. This international experience, combined with his strong background in U.S. agriculture policy, makes him an asset for USDA.

He is a graduate of the University of Virginia, having attended both college and law school there. Clarkson’s education and career reflect his dedication to agriculture law, regulatory reform, and enhancing USDA’s legal framework.
