Walmart Recalls Donkey Meat Sold in China

Walmart recalled donkey meat sold at its stores in China after tests showed that the product may actually contain fox meat.

The company said that it found traces of fox meat in its “Five Spice” donkey meat product. Walmart also said that it plans to reimburse customers who purchased the misleading meat product. Walmart is working with Chinese authorities to investigate the supplier. The company released a statement saying that they are “deeply sorry,” noting that it plans to ramp up its efforts in supplier management.

According the company’s website it plans to open up 110 new stories in China over the next three years. In 2011, 2.4 million donkeys were slaughtered for domestic consumption.
