Register Now for ISU Swine Conference in June 2025

The 2025 ISU McKean Swine Disease Conference is expanding this year with the addition of two preconference workshops focused on Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae eradication and PRRS management.

These workshops are free for those registered for the main conference, thanks to the support of generous sponsors. Both sessions will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at the Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in Ames, Iowa. The main conference will follow on Wednesday, June 25, at the Gateway Hotel and Conference Center.

This event is once again scheduled alongside Iowa Swine Day, which takes place on Thursday, June 26, 2025. While the two events are separate, their back-to-back scheduling offers attendees a unique opportunity to participate in both.

Registration is now Open at ISU Swine Disease Conference.

  • Early Bird (by June 9, 2025): $250
  • Late Registration (after June 9, 2025): $300

The International Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae Eradication Workshop, co-sponsored by Zoetis and the fieldepi group, will run from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The International PRRS Management Workshop, sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health, will follow from 12:30 PM to 5:30 PM, concluding with a social dinner.

Both workshops will feature global experts sharing practical strategies and the latest research on disease control and elimination in commercial swine operations.

The main conference will feature national and international leaders discussing topics such as sustainable veterinary practices, economic trends in the swine industry, and PRRS reduction strategies in Europe. Attendees will also receive updates on the U.S. Swine Health Improvement Plan (SHIP).

Afternoon sessions will include two concurrent tracks covering E. coli virulence, PRRSV diversity, sow mortality, groundwater pathogens, H5N1, and national swine health strategies.

Practitioner-led case studies will explore biosecurity technologies, diagnostics, and emerging health threats like JEV, PCV3, and K88 E. coli.

A networking social hosted by Iowa Swine Day will follow the main conference on June 25 at the Hansen Agriculture Student Learning Center.

Video: Season 6, Episode 10: Defining Resiliency and the Research Driving Swine Health Forward

Genetic research and new technologies continue to influence the future of swine health and production efficiency. In this episode, we explore how research and technology are being used to support stronger, more resilient pigs, while also improving overall production outcomes. In this episode, we are joined by Dr. Jenelle Dunkelberger, geneticist with Topigs Norsvin, to discuss both routine and emerging strategies for improving piglet, pig, and sow livability. She outlines two primary approaches to enhancing resiliency: gene editing and traditional selective breeding. Continuing the resiliency conversation, we also hear from Dr. Lucina Galina, director of technical research projects at the Pig Improvement Company. She shares insights into ongoing gene-editing work focused on PRRS, detailing the pathway to success, regulatory and practical considerations, and the questions that still remain as the technology evolves. Together, these conversations provide a closer look at how research, genetics and innovation are shaping the future of swine health and livability.
