Canadian Pork Council Supports Federal Action to Support Agriculture and Seafood Producers

The Canadian Pork Council (CPC) is applauding the federal government’s latest commitment to support agriculture and seafood producers facing ongoing trade challenges.

Prime Minister Mark Carney announced new measures to help producers impacted by tariff uncertainty, including improvements to the Advance Payments Program, increases in AgriMarketing funding, and initiatives to bring more affordable electric vehicles to Canada.

“As producers, we are caught in tariff challenges not of our own making, and our industry can sometimes be impacted by decisions not involving our industry,” said CPC Chair René Roy. “The Prime Minister’s announcement today is a recognition that pork, canola, and seafood producers have been impacted by decisions unrelated to the quality of our products.”

Roy emphasized the role of agriculture in driving Canada’s economy, noting that the pork sector in particular holds strong potential for growth. “We look forward to continuing our work with the Government of Canada, and with provincial governments, to increase our sector’s economic impact for all Canadians,” he said.

Representing 7,000 farms across nine provincial organizations, the CPC continues to lead national efforts on food safety, animal care, sustainability, trade, and market development for Canada’s pork producers.
