Chicken Donation Supports Families at Ronald McDonald House

LONDON, ON – Chicken Farmers of Ontario (CFO) is pleased to provide over 1000 servings of chicken to the Ronald McDonald House Charities in London. The donation was made through the CFO Cares program, which enables Ontario chicken farmers to raise and donate safe, healthy, nutritious, locally-grown chicken in support of local families in need.

Ronald McDonald House Charities Southwestern Ontario (RMHC-SWO) supports families when a child is seriously ill and requires the family to travel far from home for required medical care. RMHC-SWO provides welcoming home environments that give families emotional and physical comfort and support as they stay close to.

“The support we have received from Chicken Farmers of Ontario has been a tremendous help during COVID-19. As the pandemic was declared, Ronald McDonald House Southwestern Ontario had to cancel all of our daily volunteer dinner groups, who would donate and prepare meals for our Guest Families. The donation of chicken was graciously received by staff and families and was transformed into home cooked casseroles, chicken fajitas, hearty soups and more. The generosity of the Chicken Farmers of Ontario warmed hearts and allowed us to continue to provide warm and nutritious meals for families after long days spent in hospital,” said Tracey Keighley-Clarke, Chief Executive Officer of Ronald McDonald House Charities Southwestern Ontario.

Launched in 2015, the CFO Cares program is a collaborative initiative that enables farmers to donate up to 300 locally-grown chickens. This year, nearly 500 Ontario family farms are participating in the program and donating fresh, healthy, locally-grown chicken to Ontarians in need.

“Ontario’s chicken farmers are community leaders, volunteers, and families that take pride in helping our neighbours by giving what we can, when we can,” said Murray Opsteen, 1st Vice-Chair of CFO and Chair of the CFO Cares Working Group, “We’re delighted to be able to provide this donation of chicken to Ronald McDonald House Charities Southwestern Ontario on behalf of the hundreds of Ontario chicken farmers that participate in the CFO Cares program to support local charities and food banks each year.”

As COVID-19 has challenged many aspects of Ontario’s economy, and things are certainly not business as usual, Ontario chicken farmers are reminding Ontario families that it is still chicken as usual. Ontarians can continue to count on a stable and reliable supply of fresh, safe, healthy, locally-grown chicken.

This donation of chicken to Ronald McDonald House Charities Southwestern Ontario is one example of how Ontario chicken farmers are committed to continuing to provide premium Ontario chicken to Ontario families in need.
