Crop Progress: Subsoil Drying Continues While Corn and Soybean Push Ahead

Favorable weather helped crop development in Nebraska last week, though not all crops are moving at the same pace. According to USDA NASS data for the week ending June 8, 2025, corn and soybean emergence is well ahead of last year, while sorghum planting and wheat harvest are trailing behind typical progress for this point in the season.

Nebraska experienced 5.7 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending June 8, 2025. Topsoil moisture supplies were rated 17% very short, 33% short, 48% adequate, and 2% surplus, while subsoil moisture was rated 27% very short, 41% short, 32% adequate, and 0% surplus.
