Crops Looking Good, Depending On Where You Are

Depending on where you are on the Prairies, crops are either doing quite well because of timely rains over the past month, or they are struggling and might soon be turned into feed. One farmer near Swift Current, Saskatchewan, recently told the Canadian Press that after 9 years of drought on his farm, he’s just about had it.

The latest Alberta Crop Report that came out on Friday afternoon showed improved moisture conditions in a big chunk of southern and central Alberta, but some considerable dry patches east of Edmonton towards the Saskatchewan border and also in the peace country, which is extremely dry this summer.

Overall, the report says 61 percent of all crops are rated as good to excellent, which is a 10 percent improvement from the last report, but that’s little consolation for producers watching the rain showers bypass their fields.
