Elevator Fire at Marengo Causes Significant Damage

Twenty-four hours after the fire department was first dispatched, residents of Marengo are able to return to their homes.

The Village of Marengo and RM of Milton have lifted the evacuation order along with the state of emergency.

Residents and visitors are still being asked to steer clear of the terminals and to make sure they are giving crews adequate room to work.

The Kindersley Fire Department was dispatched to a grain elevator fire in Marengo at 10:45 pm on Thursday, October 8th.

Kindersley, Eatonia, Kerrobert, and Oyen Fire Departments all responded to the scene.

SaskPower was called in to repair damaged lines and equipment in order to restore power to customers. Evacuations of the west-central community started only a couple hours after the fire department was initially dispatched at 10:45pm.

Shane Becker, Mayor of Flaxcombe, stated they received a call and opened up the Community Hall at approximately 1:30 am and welcomed 10-12 Marengo area residents.

He shared a major concern of the fire was the propane tanks on-site that were used for grain drying.

Mr. Milt Miller, the President of Providence Grain Solutions, has confirmed that no employee was hurt or injured during the incident. Mr. Miller also confirmed that little information was known at this time, but that damage to the Marengo facility was 'significant.'
