Extension Offers Cattle Management Series For Women

The Lucas County office of Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will hold a three-session course designed for women cattle operators during November. According to Joe Sellers, beef specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach, the "Women Managing Cattle" series is specifically designed to help women cattle operators learn more about marketing strategies, cattle management and managing land and water resources.
 
"Our goal is to provide a program that is of great interest and value, so each session includes presentations, discussions, resource materials and hands-on activities," Sellers said. "In addition, guest speakers share their personal experiences and knowledge to help women become better business partners and owners."
 
Sessions will be held at Carpenter’s Hall in Chariton on the first three Thursdays in November: November 5, 12, and 19. Each session runs from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. with a meal served at 5:30. See the series flier for date, location and sponsor information.
 
Sellers said those who participate will know more about costs of production, marketing strategies and production systems by the end of the course.
 
"Whether women need to find more profitability from their family cattle business or just want to learn more about Iowa’s beef industry, this course offers something for everyone," he said. "Participants also are encouraged to establish networks with other farm and ranch women and agriculture business professionals."
