Extension to Present Pasture & Acreage Expo on Aug. 23

Southeast Nebraska livestock producers and small acreage owners can improve their knowledge and enhance their operations by attending Nebraska Extension’s 2024 Southeast Nebraska Pasture & Acreage Expo. It will be held Friday, Aug. 23 at the e Nebraska Extension in Lancaster County Extension conference rooms, 444 Cherrycreek Road, Suite A, Lincoln.

The program kicks off with check-in and refreshments in the main conference room at 1 p.m. Educational programs are from 1:30–6 p.m. and include time for attendees to visit exhibitor booths. The expo will be split into two sessions covering general pasture management, and topics specific for acreage owners. Attendees can choose to stay for the entire program or come and go at their convenience. Time for networking with experts and sponsors will be provided throughout the entire program.

Nebraska Extension is uniquely suited to bring producers and acreage owners unbiased and research-based information that will be shared at this program. The 2024 expo features presentations by Extension and industry experts on equine nutrition, virtual fencing, drones for pasture management, pasture establishment/grazing management, winter cow care, pasture weed management, plant & weed identification, and windbreak management.

This expo will help both experienced and first-time landowners learn animal and pasture management strategies to maximize the value of their properties and livestock operations. The program will address important issues for Nebraska livestock producers and acreage owners, and will provide one-on-one discussion with local, private industry exhibitors and sponsors.

I am going to show you how we save our farm money by making our own pig feed. It's the same process as making our cattle feed just with a slight adjustment to our grinder/ mixer that makes all the difference. We buy all the feed stuff required to make the total mix feed. Run each through the mixer and at the end of the process we have a product that can be consumed by our pigs.

I am the 2nd generation to live on this property after my parents purchased it in 1978. As a child my father hobby farmed pigs for a couple years and ran a vegetable garden. But we were not a farm by any stretch of the imagination. There were however many family dairy farms surrounding us. So naturally I was hooked with farming since I saw my first tractor. As time went on, I worked for a couple of these farms and that only fueled my love of agriculture. In 2019 I was able to move back home as my parents were ready to downsize and I was ready to try my hand at farming. Stacy and logan share the same love of farming as I do. Stacy growing up on her family's dairy farm and logans exposure of farming/tractors at a very young age. We all share this same passion to grow a quality/healthy product to share with our community.
