Farmers In Alberta And British Columbia Are Invited To Safely Dispose Of Their Obsolete Pesticides And Livestock Medications

Farmers from the Peace Region of Alberta and British Columbia are invited to safely and responsibly dispose of their unwanted or obsolete pesticides and livestock (including equine) medications from September 21-23. This program is offered at no cost to farmers.

CleanFARMS, an industry-led, national not-for-profit agricultural waste management organization, partnered with the Canadian Animal Health Institute (CAHI) and CropLife Canada to provide this free program.

"We are pleased with the success of our collection programs in the past," says Barry Friesen, General Manager of CleanFARMS. "It's clear that Peace Region farmers are committed to the environment and to doing the right thing."

Farmers in the Peace Region have a long history of good stewardship practices. Since 1998, area farmers have turned in over 40,000 kilograms of obsolete pesticides.

"Alberta farmers are environmentally conscious and are pleased to partner with CleanFARMS to safely dispose of obsolete pesticides and livestock medications," says Shannon Scofield, Executive Director of the Alberta Federation of Agriculture. "The CleanFARMS collection program provides an excellent one-stop service for Alberta farmers to continue to protect the land."

This year will be the first that CleanFARMS will be collecting livestock and equine medications as part of the collection program in the Peace Region. After collection, the pesticides and medications are taken to a licensed waste management facility where they are disposed of through high temperature incineration.

The following locations will be accepting obsolete pesticides and livestock/equine medications from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on the dates specified:

Video: Ice Makes Reorganizing & Moving Sheep Hazardous!

Ice makes reorganizing the sheep barns and moving sheep in preparation for lambing very hazardous - it looks more like sheep skating in an ice rink than walking in a barnyard! But, lambing season is quickly approaching, and we have the final group of ewes that require vaccinating prior to lambing, the last breeding rams need to be removed from breeding groups and tattooed, and the barns all need reorganizing to accommodate the new lambs that will be arriving shortly. So, in today’s sheep farming vlog at Ewetopia Farms, we can no longer wait for better weather conditions and must brave the treacherous ice and hope no one gets injured! This is Canadian sheep farming!
