'Frustrating' Canola Harvest Continues

The canola harvest continues across the province.

Angela Brackenreed, agronomy specialist with the Canola Council of Canada, says there is still quite a bit out there, especially in the western part of the province.

"Producers are really working away at it but it's quite slow," she said. "It's been a little bit frustrating at times but everyone's just plugging away and doing what they can. We've heard some fairly positive yields out of our wheat and canola so far, so that's great to hear. I know that straw conditions have been a little bit challenging even when the seed itself is quite dry."

She notes it's still fairly green out west and there is still a long way to go.

Brackenreed adds most areas were able to dodge last week's frost, but it did get fairly cold in northwestern areas up towards the Yorkton region. She notes there was visible signs of frost damage on the green canola.
