Mexico Lifts Ban on Canadian Beef

The decision, which was announced following a bilateral meeting between Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto last week in Ottawa, Canada, ends 13 years of restrictions on Canadian beef imposed after an outbreak of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) in 2003.

The Canadian Meat Council estimates that the increased market access will add $7.7 million USD annually to the country's beef sector.

In 2015, Canada shipped 19,400 tons of beef to Mexico worth approximately $119.7 million USD.
