Program Supports Regional Partnerships to Protect and Restore Water Resources

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS), under the leadership of Commissioner Wilton Simpson, has opened applications for its Agricultural Regional Projects Program, offering $25 million in grant funding to support large-scale, collaborative agricultural water resource projects across the state.

The program is designed to address nonpoint source pollution, enhance water quality, and promote sustainable water use within Florida’s agricultural sector. These projects will focus on regional cooperation between agricultural producers, water management districts, local governments, educational institutions, and conservation groups.

“Protecting Florida’s water resources is essential to our state’s future — and Florida’s farmers, ranchers, and growers are central to that mission,” said Commissioner Wilton Simpson. “Through the Agricultural Regional Projects Program, we are building strong partnerships that can deliver real, science-based solutions to improve water quality and conserve our water supply.”

Led by the FDACS Office of Agricultural Water Policy, the initiative will fund projects that:

  • Reduce nitrogen and phosphorus levels to meet or exceed water quality standards.

  • Improve overall water quality and quantity.

  • Promote innovative nutrient management technologies.

Align with Florida’s long-term sustainability goals for agriculture and natural resources.

Eligible applicants include private landowners, local governments, soil and water conservation districts, water management districts, and educational or conservation organizations.

These groups are encouraged to develop regional partnerships to create impactful, science-driven solutions.

Applications for funding will be accepted until 5 p.m. EST, November 7, 2025. Complete guidelines, eligibility criteria, and additional program details are available at FDACS.gov.

Commissioner Simpson emphasized that this initiative represents a significant step in protecting Florida’s most vital natural resource — water — while supporting the future of the state’s agricultural industry.

The program aims to strengthen agricultural resilience while enhancing environmental stewardship across Florida’s farming communities.
