Nominations Open for Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan Champion Award

Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan is now accepting nominations for its 2025 Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan Champion Award. Each year Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan recognizes an individual who has taken the initiative to engage or educate consumers about food and farming in Saskatchewan.Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan Executive Director Clinton Monchuk says the annual Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan Champion Award celebrates those who are helping bridge the gap between those involved in food production and consumers.

Quote-Clinton Monchuk-Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan:

If you go back to when Canada was formed in Confederation, way back over 150 years ago, 80 percent of the population lived in a rural setting and that has flipped. Now, instead of having 80 percent of the population living in a rural setting, you only have 20 percent that live in a rural setting.Even within that, a lot of the individuals who live in a rural setting do not actually have anything to do with agriculture.

They might be in minding or forestry or some other profession. As a result of that, when we look at the hard numbers here in this country, only 1.6 percent of the population is activity engaged in primary agriculture, a farmer or a rancher. As a result, as we remove generation from generation from this farm or ranch setting, a lot of those individuals no longer have a trusted source to talk to about what's going on with genetically modified foods or biotechnology or intensive livestock operations and that's where we need to do a better job of telling our story.

Make sure those people, that other 98.4 percent of the population understand what we do on our farms and ranches so then, as a result of that, you have less of these questions that come up, you have better policies for our agriculture and food in our country and you just have a stronger agriculture community.

We are a family farm in Ontario showing you what we do on our farm to produce eggs and what goes on day to day. Every day we do chores, gather eggs and make feed. On our farm we plant the crops and harvest them to feed the chickens, also we start our laying hens from day old chicks and raise them to be the best birds they can be to give you a grade A quality egg. After we are finished looking after our chickens, anything could happen from washing, waxing, fixing, welding, working on engines, working on classic cars, and more. I hope everyone enjoys cheers.

So since Covid, we have not had a way to produce any vaccines in Canada until now….. Valo has reached out to us to start start the process .
