OFA accepting applications for 2024 bursary program

OFA will be awarding five post-secondary bursaries:

  • Three – $2,000 bursaries to students in an undergraduate program.
  • One – $2,000 bursary to a person completing an apprenticeship.
  • One – $2,000 bursary for an individual completing a post-graduate, veterinary or leadership development program.

To be eligible, applicants must be OFA members, a child of an OFA member, or an employee of an OFA member and a resident of Ontario. Applicants should be able to demonstrate industry-related achievements, a genuine passion for agriculture and rural issues and active community involvement.

The winners will be announced at OFA’s 2024 Annual General Meeting being held November 26-27.

The deadline to apply for the bursary program is August 31, 2024.

In this episode of Field Talk Friday, Dr. John Murphy continues the soil biology series by diving into one of the most fascinating topics in modern agronomy: root exudates and the role they play in shaping the microbial world around plant roots.

Roots are not passive structures simply pulling nutrients out of the soil. They are active participants in the underground ecosystem. Plants constantly release compounds into the soil—sugars, amino acids, organic acids, and other molecules—that act as both energy sources and signals for soil microbes.
