We’re so excited to be celebrating the permanent protection of the Stevens property, also known as Wilmot Orchards—the first farm of its kind in the region to be protected for future generations.
The Stevens family was one of many farmland owners in the region approached by developers offering hefty checks to take their land out of agricultural production and into non-agricultural development. However, they never planned on budging. Their commitment to sustainable agriculture and the future of local food production is rooted in their decision to place a farmland conservation easement on the title of their property with OFT.
Now, their Class 1 soils (some of the county’s best farmland) are ensured to continue providing local food, jobs, and environmental benefits for all Ontarians today and for future generations.
We’re so honored to be a part of Wilmot Orchards’ journey. Read more about the farm and partnership below!
