Taking an In-Depth Look at the John Deere S680

When you have an agricultural operation to manage, you know you can turn to John Deere for the equipment you need to take on the workweek. The John Deere S680 is one combine you’ll want to have in your lineup of machinery, especially if you work long days and need more efficiency. With features such as the Dyna-Flo™ Plus cleaning system and ProDrive Transmission™, you can boost your agricultural productivity and rest assured that your harvest is in good hands.

What is the John Deere S680?

The John Deere S680 is a combine which is part of the John Deere S Series, and it has several features designed to make the average workday a breeze. This combine simplifies the harvesting process by reaping, threshing, and winnowing, helping farmers bring in their harvest in plenty of time to meet the tight deadlines harvest season imposes.

What Can the John Deere S680 Do?

The John Deere S680 has a wide range of features that make it one of the most popular combines on the market. Like other models in the S Series, the S680 has a cleaning system that minimizes slope sensitivity. This makes it easier for operators to continue harvesting on uneven terrain while out in the field. In addition, the John Deere S680 has a 3.8 bu per second emptying rate and an increased grain tank capacity of 400 bu.

What are the Features of the John Deere S680?

Whether you need a new combine before your next harvest or you are simply interested in learning more about the John Deere S680, read on to discover some of the highlights of this advanced and productive machine.

Spacious and Comfortable Premium Cab

The John Deere S680 has a spacious, comfortable cab with a deluxe leather seat for the ultimate comfort. Operators will also enjoy the cab’s premium radio, electric adjustable mirrors, refrigerator, and pull-down sunshade. The steering column is single-tilt and comes with telescopic controls, which makes it simpler to maneuver the combine.

Advanced Variable-Stream Rotor Threshing Concept

The variable-stream rotor of the John Deere S680 has a tapered design in the threshing section. This enhances grain quality, reduces power usage, and improves crop flow. The rotor itself also has adjustable top cover transport vanes for challenging conditions.

Active Tailings Return

The active tailings return system of the S680 helps provide additional threshing during the harvesting process.

ProDrive™ Transmission in Base Configuration

The PowerShift™ technology of the John Deere S680’s ProDrive™ transmission allows operators to shift between two speed ranges, adjusting to the terrain automatically. This helps the combine harvest at the optimal ground speed, meaning fewer adjustments need to be made on the fly.

Active Concave Isolation (ACI)

ACI boosts throughput in challenging threshing conditions, resulting in more grain savings. Operators can continue to harvest, regardless of the conditions, and ultimately experience less downtime. The concaves are also suspended by hydraulic cylinders that increase how much crop is being threshed at any given time.

High-Performance Dyna-Flo™

Dyna-Flo™ is composed of high-strength steel and aluminum that reduces overall weight without compromising the integrity of the system. It also has a sizeable sieve area that boosts productivity during harvest, as well as a sloped front chaffer for more aggressive separation.

ProDrive™ Transmission

The John Deere S680’s ProDrive™ transmission uses the Harvest Smart™ feed rate control system, which lessens operator fatigue while boosting productivity. Its hydrostatic motor has a higher displacement than previous systems as well, allowing it to maintain high levels of torque to the ground. The ProDrive™ transmission also has a differential lock to give operators peace of mind while working on terrain with limited traction. In the event that traction is lost, the differential lock can be engaged at the press of a button.

Harvest Smart™ System

The Harvest Smart™ system gives operators automatic ground speed control while harvesting. This allows them to maintain a consistent feed rate by automatically changing the ground speed of the combine as needed. Harvest Smart™ also keeps the machine operating at maximum load capacity, as set by the operator.

TriStream™ Rotor

The TriStream™ rotor included in each John Deere S680 has a tapered design in its threshing area. Not only does this help maintain grain quality, but it limits the growling of heavy rotor loads. The technology of the rotor can reduce the force necessary to move material through the combine by up to 20 percent. This boosts fuel efficiency, limiting operational costs.
