USDA: Weekly Export Sales Report Highlights

This summary is based on reports from exporters for the period April 25-May 1, 2014.

Wheat:   Net sales of 320,500 metric tons for delivery during the 2013/2014 marketing year were up 49 percent from the previous week and 26 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases for Brazil (76,500 MT), Indonesia (66,400 MT), Thailand (50,000 MT), Mexico (42,800 MT), Nigeria (32,700 MT, including 9,200 MT switched from unknown destinations), and Italy (23,800 MT, including 25,000 MT switched from unknown destinations and decreases of 1,300 MT), were partially offset by decreases for unknown destinations (36,300 MT) and the United Kingdom (1,000 MT).  Net sales of 125,000 MT for 2014/2015 were primarily for Mexico (48,700 MT), unknown destinations (45,000 MT), Peru (20,000 MT), and Venezuela (9,000 MT).  Decreases were reported for the Leeward Windward Islands (5,500 MT).  Exports of 526,600 MT were down 22 percent from the previous week and 8 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Nigeria (118,200 MT), Mexico (90,900 MT), Japan (80,800 MT), Guatemala (48,900 MT), Indonesia (46,400 MT), and Israel (36,300 MT).

Optional Origin Sales:   For 2013/2014, outstanding optional origin sales total 68,000 MT, and are for Algeria (59,000 MT) and Italy (9,000 MT).

Exports for Own Account:  Exports for own account to Italy (1,200 MT) were applied to new or outstanding sales.  The current exports for own account balance is 8,400 MT, all Italy.

Corn:  Net sales of 161,300 MT for 2013/2014 were down 83 percent from the previous week and 77 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Japan (212,600 MT, including 150,000 MT switched from China and 49,700 MT switched from unknown destinations and decreases of 27,500 MT), Colombia (102,200 MT, including 100,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), Taiwan (82,800 MT, including 65,000 MT switched from unknown destinations and decreases of 2,600 MT), Spain (57,000 MT, including 55,000 MT switched from unknown destinations), Mexico (28,200 MT), and the Dominican Republic (23,600 MT, including 8,000 MT switched from unknown destinations).  Decreases were reported for China (210,000 MT), unknown destinations (116,800 MT), Costa Rica (37,200 MT), and Egypt (17,200 MT).  Net sales of 121,000 MT for 2014/2015 were reported for unknown destinations (65,000 MT), Costa Rica (37,900 MT), Colombia (10,000 MT), and Guatemala (8,100 MT).  Exports of 1,415,100 MT were up 16 percent from the previous week and 11 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Japan (507,200 MT), Mexico (220,800 MT), South Korea (140,100 MT), Taiwan (135,000 MT), Egypt (118,800 MT), Vietnam (63,000 MT), and Spain (57,000 MT).

Optional Origin Sales:   For 2013/2014, outstanding optional origin sales total 123,000 MT, all South Korea.

Export Adjustments:  Accumulated exports to China were adjusted down 49,272 MT for week ending March 6, 2014.  The correct destination for this shipment is Japan and is included in this report.

Barley: Net sales of 200 MT for 2013/2014 were reported for South Korea.  Net sales of 1,000 MT for 2014/2015 were reported for Taiwan.  Exports of 400 MT were reported to South Korea.

Sorghum: Net sales of 65,500 MT for 2013/2014 were reported for China.  Exports of 87,400 MT were reported to China.

Export Adjustments:  Accumulated exports to China were adjusted down 118,527 MT for week ending April 24, 2014.  These shipments were previously reported.

Rice: Net sales of 33,100 MT for 2013/2014 were up noticeably from the previous week, but down 13 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Haiti (20,900 MT), Honduras (8,800 MT), El Salvador (4,700 MT, including 1,600 MT switched from Guatemala), Canada (2,100 MT), and Yemen (1,200 MT).  Decreases were reported for Mexico (4,400 MT), Guatemala (1,400 MT), Turkey (800 MT), and Jordan (300 MT).  Net sales of 500 MT for 2014/2015 were reported for Jordan.  Exports of 44,200 MT were down 21 percent from the previous week and 24 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Haiti (22,500 MT), El Salvador (6,200 MT), Canada (3,400 MT), Mexico (3,000 MT), and Japan (2,500 MT).

Export Adjustments:  Accumulated exports to Turkey were adjusted down 17,800 MT (medium rough) for week ending December 26, 2013 and 6,810 MT (medium milled) for week ending January 30, 2014.  These shipments were previously reported.

Soybeans:  Net sales of 40,800 MT for 2013/2014 were up noticeably from the previous week and 97 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases reported for Japan (19,700 MT), Mexico (9,300 MT), Vietnam (8,800 MT), Barbados (3,500 MT), and Taiwan (3,500 MT), were partially offset by decreases for Israel (9,000 MT), Cuba (800 MT), and China (200 MT).  Net sales of 14,200 MT for 2014/2015 were for Israel (13,500 MT), Japan (400 MT), and Canada (300 MT).  Exports of 132,400 MT were down 51 percent from the previous week and 65 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Mexico (40,400 MT), Indonesia (28,600 MT), Egypt (27,300 MT), Vietnam (9,800 MT), Cuba (7,200 MT), Taiwan (5,800 MT), and Japan (5,100 MT).

Optional Origin Sales:   For 2013/2014, outstanding optional origin sales total 110,500 MT, all China.  For 2014/2015, outstanding optional origin sales total 450,000 MT, and are for China (330,000 MT) and Egypt (120,000 MT).

Soybean Cake and Meal:  Net sales of 75,000 MT for 2013/2014 were down 47 percent from the previous week and 45 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases reported for Mexico (18,600 MT), Egypt (18,000 MT), Canada (12,700 MT), the Philippines (10,800 MT), the Dominican Republic (3,600 MT, including 500 MT switched from unknown destinations), Sri Lanka (3,200 MT), and Ghana (3,200 MT, including 3,100 MT switched from unknown destinations), were partially offset by decreases for unknown destinations (4,000 MT) and Honduras (300 MT).  Net sales of 62,200 MT for 2014/2015 were reported for the Philippines (40,500 MT), Canada (11,700 MT), and Vietnam (10,000 MT).  Exports of 156,700 MT were down 32 percent from the previous week and 24 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were the Philippines (47,600 MT), Mexico (35,500 MT), Canada (18,400 MT), Egypt (18,000 MT), the Dominican Republic (8,100 MT), and El Salvador (5,100 MT).   

Soybean Oil:  Net sales of 7,700 MT for 2013/2014 were up noticeably from the previous week and from the prior 4-week average.  Increases reported for Jamaica (3,500 MT), Mexico (3,300 MT) and Nicaragua (800 MT), were partially offset by decreases for Canada (100 MT).  Exports of 6,600 MT were down 68 percent from the previous week and 71 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Mexico (4,600 MT), Canada (1,000 MT), Nicaragua (800 MT), and Trinidad (100 MT).

Cotton:  Net Upland sales 63,800 RB for 2013/2014 were up noticeably from the previous week and 11 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Vietnam (31,500 RB), Turkey (9,900 RB), Indonesia (8,500 RB, including 1,000 RB switched from Japan), Peru (6,200 RB), and China (4,700 RB).  Decreases were reported for Mexico (1,600 RB).  Net sales of 150,600 RB for 2014/2015 were reported for Mexico (138,800 RB), Peru (8,700 RB) and Turkey (2,600 RB).  Decreases were reported for Colombia (100 RB).  Exports of 208,300 RB were down 5 percent from the previous week and 18 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were China (52,500 RB), Turkey (43,800 RB), South Korea (23,500 RB), Vietnam (23,400 RB), and Mexico (16,300 RB).  Net American Pima sales of 3,100 RB for 2013/2014 were down 50 percent from the previous week and 51 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for China (2,100 RB), Thailand (800 RB), Mexico (500 RB), and India (300 RB, switched from Indonesia).  Decreases were reported for Germany (600 RB) and Indonesia (300 RB).  Net sales of 1,900 RB for 2014/2015 were reported for Mexico (1,000 RB), Honduras (400 RB), and Egypt (400 RB).  Exports of 18,900 RB were primarily to China (7,000 RB), Turkey (4,400 RB), Egypt (2,400 RB), and India (1,800 RB).

Optional Origin Sales:  For 2013/2014, outstanding optional origin sales total 16,900 RB, and are for Thailand (11,300 RB), South Korea (4,600 RB), unknown destinations (700 RB), and Vietnam (300 RB).  For 2014/2015, new optional origin sales totaling 26,400 RB were reported for Indonesia.  Outstanding optional origin sales total 39,600 RB, all Indonesia.  

Exports for Own Account:  New exports for own account were reported to China (430 RB).  Exports for own account to China (600 RB) were applied to new or outstanding sales.  Decreases in exports for own account were reported to China (500 RB).  The current exports for own account balance is 69,400 RB, and is for China (66,200 RB) and Indonesia (3,200 RB).

Hides and Skins:  Net sales of 307,100 pieces, all whole cattle hides, reported for 2014 were down 12 percent from the previous week and 28 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were China (189,700 pieces), South Korea (82,800 pieces), Taiwan (19,200 pieces), and Mexico (10,700 pieces).  Decreases were reported for Thailand (300 pieces).  Exports of 412,400 pieces) were down 6 percent from the previous week and 9 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Whole cattle hides exports totaled 400,500 pieces, with the primary destinations being China (282,000 pieces), South Korea (71,100 pieces), Taiwan (11,800 pieces), Italy (11,600 pieces), and Mexico (8,600 pieces).

Net sales of 469,000 wet blues for 2014 were reported for China (273,200 unsplit), Vietnam (61,500 unsplit), Taiwan (37,900 unsplit), and Mexico (29,500 grain splits and 8,100 unsplit).  Decreases were reported for South Korea (200 unsplit) and India (200 grain splits).  Exports of 159,200 wet blues were primarily to China (45,600 unsplit and 9,800 grain splits), Vietnam (35,000 unsplit), Italy (15,000 unsplit and 3,400 grain splits), Mexico (12,300 grain splits and 5,000 unsplit), and South Korea (12,300 unsplit and 1,600 grain splits).  Net sales of splits totaling 189,000 pounds for 2014 were reported for China (124,400 pounds), South Korea (68,500 pounds), and Hong Kong (6,100 pounds).  Decreases were reported for Vietnam (9,700 pounds) and India (200 pounds).  Exports of 418,400 pounds were reported to South Korea (333,200 pounds) and China (85,200 pounds).

Beef:  Net sales of 12,500 MT for 2014 were up 10 percent from the previous week, but down 28 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Japan (4,800 MT), Canada (2,600 MT), Mexico (1,600 MT), South Korea (1,000 MT), and Hong Kong (800 MT).  Net sale of 200 MT for 2015 were reported for Canada.  Exports of 13,500 MT were up 13 percent from the previous week and 10 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Japan (3,800 MT), South Korea (2,300 MT), Hong Kong (2,100 MT), Mexico (2,000 MT), and Canada (1,700 MT).

Pork:  Net sales of 9,600 MT for 2014 were down 2 percent from the previous week, but up 2 percent from the prior 4-week average.  Increases were reported for Mexico (3,400 MT), Japan (1,800 MT), South Korea (800 MT), Canada (800 MT), and China (600 MT).  Decreases were reported for Australia (200 MT).  Exports of 10,900 MT were up 19 percent from the previous week and 6 percent from the prior 4-week average.  The primary destinations were Mexico (3,400 MT), Japan (1,900 MT), South Korea (1,400 MT), Canada (1,100 MT), and Hong Kong (800 MT).
