Viterra partners with Canadian Foodgrains Bank

The Canadian Foodgrains Bank and Viterra are now into their eigth year of working together to end global hunger.

The partnership sees Viterra donate land around its facilities in Balgonie, Grenfell and Raymore, Saskatchewan, as well as Trochu, Alberta for growing projects.

Kyle Jeworski, CEO of Viterra Canada thanked farmers that work on these growing projects noting that as a global industry leader, they recognize the critical importance of food security and moving food ingredients to areas of need safely and efficiently.

In 2023, that amounted to 172 acres of land with volunteer farmers working at these terminals giving their time and effort to plant those acres and harvest the crops for the Foodgrains Bank.

Foodgrains Bank executive director Andy Harrington says they're very grateful for the years of continued partnership with Viterra, and the volunteer farmers who are working the land at these terminals, and for the impact they are making in the fight against hunger.

Video: A chain harrow is a game changer

Utilizing a rotational grazing method on our farmstead with our sheep helps to let the pasture/paddocks rest. We also just invested in a chain harrow to allow us to drag the paddocks our sheep just left to break up and spread their manure around, dethatch thicker grass areas, and to rough up bare dirt areas to all for a better seed to soil contact if we overseed that paddock. This was our first time really using the chain harrow besides initially testing it out. We are very impressed with the work it did and how and area that was majority dirt, could be roughed up before reseeding.
