Women Coming To The Forefront In Agriculture

Monday, March 8 is International Women's Day.

Sam Connery-Nichol is a manager at Connery's Riverdale Farms in the RM of Portage la Prairie.

"I think women have always been extremely important in agriculture, they maybe just didn't get the recognition, but now more and more I'm seeing a lot more women take part in the organizations and take more management visible roles," she said. "Where as they might have been working more behind the scenes before, now they're coming to the forefront a little more being recognized for it. It's great."

Connery-Nichol, who's also a director with Keystone Agricultural Producers (KAP), says they have four women on the KAP board.

Connery’s Riverdale Farms Ltd. is a family-owned farm which grows asparagus, broccoli, carrots and cooking onions which are sold through Peak of the Market.

They also operate a U-Pick and Pre-Picked Strawberry Farm on Hwy 331.
